As a member of the Board of Education I would have four guiding principles: Prioritizing Students, Supporting Teachers and Staff, Fiscal Responsibility, and Transparency in Governance.
I'm an active member of Grosse Pointe Memorial Church where I currently serve as an Elder. For eight seasons I coached or managed Park little league teams. And as much as possible I try to volunteer in the schools - though sometimes that just boils down to timing at swim meets.
I started my career with Deloitte where I earned my CPA. I'm currently a Partner with IBM Consulting. In my current role I work with clients to streamline processes and implement innovative technology.
My wife Heather and I have three children. We moved to Grosse Pointe Park in 2003 for the reasons so many of us choose this area: great schools, beautiful neighborhoods, and an incredible walkability factor. We have three children, two are studying at U of M in Ann Arbor and our youngest is a Senior at South High School.
I believe strongly in public education as critically important to American society. Grosse Pointe schools have a history of excellence and I want to contribute to that legacy.
I believe that our current political climate is unhealthy and driven by extremes. Thoughtful, moderate, people need to engage directly in the process, and I aim to serve Grosse Pointe in that way.
I believe the Board needs to improve building consensus on key issues and communicating in a productive way with the Grosse Pointe community.
Every decision of the board should be evaluated through the lens of the impact on students. All students. No one student is more important than another.
We're in the midst of a crisis in the teaching profession. We need to support our teachers and staff with adequate compensation, access to development opportunities, and a Board that has their back.
Under the current Board our fund balance has eroded and we're projecting a budget deficit for the next year. I advocate for a comprehensive review of all spending and a thorough exploration of revenue opportunities
Transparency is a cornerstone of democracy. We need to return to an environment where speech is welcomed and meetings are arranged to allow the greatest possible participation.
